If you or a family member ever worked for, owned shares in, or inherited from one of the 22 JSE-listed companies in the Claim It campaign, you may be owed unclaimed dividends. The verification is free, takes a few minutes, and the average successful claimant walks away with dividends they didn’t even know existed.
The campaign has already paid out more than R$18 million to 15,000 confirmed South Africans. Most of them started with the same simple question: do I have any unclaimed dividends?
Three ways to run your free check
The JSE Claim It campaign offers three free channels. Pick whichever is easiest for you.
1. Official online portal — jse.co.za/claimit
The main entry point. You’ll fill out a short form with your full name, SA ID number, contact details, and any companies you’ve worked for or held shares in. The system checks against the JSE registry and notifies you by email/SMS if a match is found.

2. WhatsApp channel
If you prefer to submit documents and follow up via mobile, the campaign runs an active WhatsApp line. Useful for people who don’t have reliable internet but do have a smartphone.
3. Call centre — 0861 401 105
You can also speak directly to a JSE representative during business hours. They’ll run the check for you over the phone or guide you through the online form.
What you’ll need to submit
For yourself:
- Certified copy of your SA ID book or smart ID card
- Proof of address (utility bill or bank statement no older than three months)
- Contact details — working phone number and email address
For a deceased family member (inheritance case):
- Letters of Executorship from the Master of the High Court
- Certified death certificate of the deceased
- Your own certified ID copy
- Proof of your relationship to the deceased
What happens after you submit
The JSE and the participating company’s registrar will verify your identity against their records. If a match is found, they’ll contact you with the amount owed and the payment method (usually direct bank deposit).
Average processing time is around 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the company and whether documentation is complete on the first submission. If you’re missing documents, the team will let you know what’s needed.
Red flags — how to avoid scams
The JSE is explicit: the Claim It campaign is inbound only. That means:
- Nobody from JSE, Sasol, Old Mutual, Vodacom, or any participating company will call you offering to “release” your dividends
- Nobody should ask you for upfront fees — the campaign is 100% free
- Never share your ID number, banking details, or one-time PINs with someone who contacts you first
Only trust the official channels: jse.co.za/claimit, the official WhatsApp line, or 0861 401 105. If anyone else contacts you claiming to be from JSE or one of the participating companies, end the contact and report.
